What we actually collect

This website is a comparison service, so most of what passes through it is not personal at all. A search carries a pickup point, a drop-off point and two dates. None of that identifies you.

Beyond the search itself, we handle three things. The first is ordinary technical information that any web server records: an IP address, the browser and device type, the page you asked for and when. The second is anything you type into the review form, which is the name, home city, rating and comment you choose to publish. The third is the content of an email you send us, together with the address it came from.

We do not take payment on this website, so no card number ever reaches us. When you open an offer, the booking is completed on the booking platform, and the name, licence details and payment information you give there are held by that platform and by the rental supplier under their own privacy notices.

Why we are allowed to use it

Technical logs and aggregated traffic measurement rest on our legitimate interest in keeping the website working, secure and worth reading. Replying to an email rests on our legitimate interest in answering the person who wrote to us. Publishing a review rests on the consent you give by submitting it. Any non-essential cookie is set only after you agree to it, and you can change your mind later.

Who else sees it

We do not sell personal data and we do not share it for anyone else's marketing. The parties that necessarily touch it are our hosting provider, the content delivery and security network that sits in front of the site, the booking platform that supplies the car listings and handles the reservation you make, and our email provider. Each acts on our instructions or, in the case of the booking platform, as a controller in its own right for the booking you place with it. We also disclose data where a law or a lawful order requires it.

Where the data goes

Our infrastructure sits in the European Economic Area. Some of the services above operate globally, so data may be processed outside the EEA. Where that happens we rely on the European Commission's standard contractual clauses or an adequacy decision covering the destination country.

How long we keep it

Server logs are kept for a short operational period and then discarded. Email correspondence is kept while the conversation is live and for a reasonable period afterwards in case you write again about the same trip. A published review stays up until you ask us to remove it. Aggregated traffic statistics, which no longer identify anyone, are kept indefinitely.

Your rights

If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom you hold the following rights, and you exercise any of them by emailing us. We answer within one month.

• Ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
• Have inaccurate details corrected.
• Ask us to erase data we no longer need.
• Object to processing we carry out on the basis of legitimate interests.
• Ask us to restrict processing while a question about it is resolved.
• Receive the data you gave us in a portable, machine readable form.
• Withdraw consent for anything you consented to, without affecting what happened before.
• Complain to the data protection authority in the country where you live.

If your question concerns a booking rather than this website, the booking platform or the rental supplier holds that record and we will point you to the right address.

Children

Renting a car requires a driving licence, so this website is not aimed at children and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under sixteen. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, write to us and we will delete it.

Updates to this policy

We revise this page whenever the service changes in a way that affects your data, and the review date at the top identifies the current version. The cookies and similar storage this website uses are listed separately in our cookie policy, and the rules covering bookings are in our terms and conditions.
